An American Nightmare
11 February 2008
I support Barack Obama. I have supported him since before the first primary. I hope and expect him to be our next President.
Let us suppose that he continues to get the majority of the primary votes but Hillary Clinton remains competitive getting many but not most of the votes. At the end of the primary season Obama has a solid but not overpowering number of votes from the Electoral College. He has won the right to represent the Democratic Party in the general election fair and square.
The Clintons are firmly part of the old school Democratic Party. They collude with John Dean (Democratic Party Chairman) and the others in the old boys club and manage to get the Florida and Michigan electoral votes accepted. By violating their own Democratic rules established before the primaries began they put Hillary Clinton slightly ahead of Barack Obama in electoral votes and she becomes the Democratic Candidate because Obama abided by the rules of his party and did not run in these two states. Everyone knows this is wrong just as they did when George W. Bush manipulated the vote in Florida to become the illegitimate President of the United States.
In abject disgust with their Party, the electoral system and the Clintons many Democrats change their registration to Independent. They either refuse to vote, vote for an Independent candidate or just write in Barack Obama on their voting ballot. The result of this is that the Republican party once again has control of the American Government and the whole world knows that the United States is not a Democracy and does not even have a legitimate government. The very few friends we still had abandon us and start to unit to counter our military superiority.
No one wants dollars and American products are shunned throughout the world. The dollar’s value plummets. Because it was universal there is a world wide depression. The world blames the United States for the economic havoc and there is a world wide terrorist movement to destroy everything American, especially its people. In such desperate times the ground is well prepared for a political savior. But the new American Hitler has far more power then his German predecessor of seventy years ago. He has the Nuclear Bomb.
It will be an easy task to demagogue the desperate and disillusioned citizenry to follow the lead of the Führer who promises a return to the old way of American world dominance. Never, ever forget that Germany was an intellectual giant among nations; that Germany was a world leader in art, science and philosophy; that our culture and education system was inspired by European culture and especially German culture. In fact, there was even a strong movement to make German rather than English our national language. It happened in Germany. It can happen in the United States. We can be the culture that destroys all of mankind. We already have violated our own constitution. We already have violated the very international law we helped establish. We already have condoned torture but have lied about the name. This is not a fantastic scenario; it is an unlikely very real possibility.
My quandary is this: what can we do to insure that the Clintons don’t game the political system as the Republicans did? How can we insure a democratic form of government? What is the proper response if the delegates from Florida and Michigan are allowed to vote? I really don’t know what I would or could do. I do think now is the time to consider such voting manipulation.

Yes, I have this dream of a brighter world ! May not be it a dream ...
Good post.
